Motivation
Does anyone else lack motivation day to day for mundane tasks, or is it just me?!
You work all week, for me that is 8:30 to 5, so I'm leaving the house at 7:55am, unless I'm on public transport then it's even earlier, and I'm getting home at 5:40ish depending on traffic and again even later than that if I'm not getting a lift, so by the time I get in it's a chore to even just cook dinner let alone do anything else.
And then it's like, I want to fill my evenings with fun things; going out, playing games, watching a good TV show. Not laundry and cleaning and tidying. Yet those things need doing and then the weekend rolls around and I still want to just do things I enjoy, reading, writing, movies, again getting out of the house but of course that's when the bigger chores need doing; more laundry, deep cleaning, hoovering, getting the kids stuff ready for school, organising cupboards and clothes and things we keep putting off - since getting the new house we haven't really used the garden, we got a BBQ and a little table and some chairs yet we don't go sit out there because then I see bushes need trimming back and things need weeding etc. It's all very overwhelming and it's like, when do I have time to enjoy life as well as do all the things that need to be done?!
So we do what we can, fit in something here while doing something we enjoy there and inevitably the big jobs get left in favour of the things that need doing, like cooking, washing up, laundry,as that stuff piles up and appears again to be done just after you've literally done it.
So then we take time off work, to spend time with our families, get on top of the bigger jobs if we can, and maybe squeeze in some time to do something we enjoy. I can't remember the last time I sat and just read for hours on end. But the biggest problem I have is motivation. I know what needs to be done, I go through lists in my head, make plans, think “I'll do that when I get home”, as well as find time to exercise and take care of myself, maybe learn some new recipes, cook from scratch something more exciting than a quick spag bol. But I just don't do it.
I come home from work and chuck something quick on for dinner, and sit on the sofa watching repeats on Tele and scrolling TikTok. And then get annoyed at myself for not having the motivation to get more done. And the weekend comes and if I don't have plans, I think I'll get loads done but I don't. I may squeeze in some gaming time between the little bits of housework that can't be ignored. And it just all gets a bit irritating, everything just piles up and I'll get some random spike of energy late at night and hyper fixate on some random chore that may not be important in the grand scheme of things, but it was bugging me enough that it suddenly took all my attention and I feel happy to have achieved something but then annoyed at myself that I wasn't motivated earlier to do more.
Is it just me? Or do we all fall into the same routines of doing the bare minimum to get by?
I'm not sure what the answer is as I'm 37 and have been this way for years and years, the only big difference now is I have more plans than I did say 5 years ago, so even more falls by the wayside at home and even less gets accomplished!
The old saying stands I guess, that there just isn't enough time in the day to do it all.
