Batman Day

Batman Day
Hello comic book fans! I know this isn’t a Wednesday, but I promise I have a good reason for this, as today is Batman Day!
Well, what does this actually mean? If you’re thinking that, is it based on the anniversary of Batman’s first appearance…you’d be wrong my friend. Whilst that would make sense, comics never are, and Batman actually debuted on March 30th, 1939.
The first Batman Day took place in 2014 to celebrate 75 years of the Caped Crusader. This took place on July 23rd to sync with San Diego Comic Con, a place where Batman truly would be celebrated. This involved people spending even more money than they probably would at conventions (man how rich I would be if I wasn’t a superhero fan), as collectables hit shops across America. After the convention was over, talks were had and it was decided that Batman Day would be on the third weekend of September because of, well, vibes. There is no official reason for this, but fans are happy either way.
What are DC doing this year for Batman Day? Good news is that it is less centred to San Diego and is more global now! A new comic is being released that includes both the current Batman and Absolute Batman, looking at how the different worlds would solve a similar problem. Additionally, more hardcovers are being released in comic book shops, as well as paper masks and other collectibles to buy. The new Lego™️ game is also seeing some upgrades, with more props able to be bought in the game! Over in America, many Batman movies, yes including the Lego™️ Batman Movie, were released back into cinemas. Unfortunately for anyone outside of that, we just have to wait another 20 years for Matt Reves’ The Batman Part II (just kidding, take all the time you need, we can’t wait). All of this, and more, with surprises being teased.
So, what can you do to celebrate Batman Day? If you can, go to a local comic book shop and buy whatever they have on sale. It is always important to support local businesses, and this is definitely a day to do it. If money isn’t your best friend right now, read a comic you have, read a comic online, watch a Batman movie, practice your voice of vengeance in the mirror. Or go beat up some random people, I don’t know (DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A JOKE DO NOT COMMIT ANY CRIMES). There are many ways to celebrate Batman Day. It could even be taking his mentality, a full what would Batman do? Help those around you, care for the weaker, find something that you’re passionate about that is lacking justice, find your opinion on some world issues- I’m looking at you Ed Sheeran.
Maybe the arrangement of today isn’t the most understandable, but its celebration should be. Grab your cape, grab your mask, grab some orphans and celebrate in the way that would make Batman proud.
