My Reading/English Journey

Gabrielle Hammond
Hey all. Today's blog by moi is all about my reading journey and my love of books.
I have always loved reading from a young age. In primary school and early high school, I read loads. Especially those amazing Fairy books (if you know you know). I also got into murder mystery books at this age too with Murder Most Unladylike (an amazing series for pre-teens). I used to love writing books too and my original piece of "The One Blood" in primary school was a memory my family will never forget. I even had a piece published in a book!
Around year 9-11 I went into reading slump. I didn't really even touch a book, let alone read one- I only read texts I had to for my GCSE Literature. My love for English writing and reading went downhill and became almost non-existent in these years. But near the end of year 11, when I had my last set of mocks before my exams, I realised English was my strongest subject. I was getting 8's or 9's in both Englishes consistently (this is not to brag- lol!). I always felt like I wanted to do something sciency or mathsy but then I thought no, maybe English is my strong suit.
For my A-levels I started off doing four; English Language, Drama, Biology & Health and Social Care. I dropped Drama and then decided to change Biology to English Literature after a change of heart.
This is when my love sprouted once more. I was writing journalistic types of articles, blogs and reviews in my spare time as well as a lot of script writing. And on the reading side I was loving getting back into it, due to my A level Literature. I read 1984, Handmaid's Tale, To Kill a Mockingbird (chosen coursework) and plays such as Twelfth Night, A Streetcar Named Desire and A Doll's House for my A-level. And in my own time I started to read the Bridgerton series.
I love the Bridgerton series of books. They are so great and such an easy read but thrilling throughout. These really got me back into reading (although I haven't completed the series yet). I have ventured off into other Romantic themed books. My favourite is historic romance hence why I loved Bridgerton so much. But now with my new love of F1 I am reading a lot of F1 themed romance. And I love it all.
That's why I decided to start up my own Book Club, so I can have a group to carry on my love and be a part of something every book lover dreams o
