Puppet Theatre
Don’t tell me I should listen, when my head it screams so loud.
Don’t say it’s time to focus, leave me hidden in the crowd.
Don’t pull me to the front, I’m not a puppet on your string.
Leave me silent in the corner, for I’m not ready to sing.
I feel your eyes upon me, as you offer me a smile.
I painted quite the picture, inside darkness all the while.
I’m not here to act your jester, the jokes are painted black.
You’d need to look inside me, a vision you all lack.
Can’t you see that something’s broken, this smile is made of glass.
I want to see the future, but I’m held up in the past.
I see no path before me, I leave footprints far behind.
I fear they go in circles, like the thoughts that plague my mind.
A presence felt beside me, how long has that been here?
A shoulder pressed against mine, as I wipe away a tear.
‘I see you’ in a whisper, an arm across my chest.
‘I’ll hold you, keep you still, allow your mind to rest’
I wipe away the blur, I want to see what holds my hand.
Nothingness surrounds me as I try to understand.
Have I witnessed Heaven sent, did an Angel venture near?
Did my mother hold my hand, so I’ve nothing more to fear?
