Poetry by Greg: The Emotion of Man (the voice inside)

The Emotion of Man (the voice inside)
Shhh, be quiet, don’t let them see,
Those feelings aren’t for them,
They’re for you… and for me.
Who me?! I’m the voice,
The one in your head,
Saying “don’t show them that, just show them ‘this’ instead…”
I don’t think they’ll notice, well…
Do you?
You’ll smile, and you’ll wave,
You’ll manipulate their view.
I’ll tell you to hide,
I’ll be like “it’s alright….”
“Just keep all that hidden, in the dark, out of sight”.
“You’re a man” I’ll say, when the times they get tough, and I’ll soon have you feeling like you’re never enough.
But you can’t let them know,
Those feelings are yours!
So don’t let them out, keep them locked, behind doors.
Trust me! I’ve got this,
I’m sure you’ll be fine…
Like an actor, a writer…
<tut> …just read the next line.
I’ll prompt you at times,
When you look insecure,
So we maintain the fiction,
You know the score!
And at the end of the day,
When you’re lying in bed.
You might think of things different, what you could do instead.
But I’ll always be there,
That voice you can’t shake.
So you don’t look defeated,
A Champion…
Fake…
