When The Darkness Falls

They tell you that time heals all wounds,

They tell you to forgive and forget,

They tell you the world is your oyster,

But you can't get out your own head.

They say life is for living,

They say good things are in the cards,

But when the darkness falls,

Living your life becomes so hard.

Your world seems to spiral,

Like a roller coaster you can't get off,

The life you're meant to be living,

Flashing in front of your eyes so fast.

So you hold on tight,

to that that small glimmer ahead,

Hoping one day,

that you will get there in the end.

But sometimes the smile fades,

The mask begins to drop,

And you realise that life,

Might just be about to stop.

So what can you do?

Where can you go?

Who can you ask?

Who will know?

If it all ended today

would you even say goodbye?

To the ones you loved

Would you even cry?

So when the darkness falls,

And the pain rises inside,

Just know my dear,

I am here by your side.

I will be your light,

I will be your smile,

I will be your mask

While you take the time to heal.

For the darkness is in me too,

The pain comes again and again,

But I won't let it win

I won't let it cut my skin.
