To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a bildungsroman novel which I read between 27th May-4th July (yes a long time!)
5 STARS
An incredible, heart-wrenching but beautifully written book. Maybe this is because this is one of the first books I read in a while, but I was hooked on the pages from the start. It leaves you thinking about the cruel past times of black history and the unjust systems, shown in this book as Tom Robinson's truly tragic case. However, it also shows the present-day stances we can take with non-conformist individuals like Boo Radley. Lee shows how we should never judge anyone, take a book by its cover, or put vulnerable and innocent people at risk, and this, for me, is what makes the book so poignant. Having the written narrator of Scout, a child, allows Lee to have even more of an impact on the reader as it shows children's innocence, naivety and non-prejudice natures. This allows the book to be even more powerful and unforgettable. A work of art; read and enjoyed all these years later.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it"- Atticus, Harper Lee
