Emerging Talent: Bands at SNC Takeover

Hey everyone; happy Thursday in this beautiful heat (divides the population whether you like it or not lol!). Today's blog is a bitesize one all about music. I went to a open gig afternoon/early evening last week for Suffolk New College and I wanted to review it but also talk about the importance of supporting the arts and newly emerging bands.

A rekindle of an old friendship led me to attend this afternoon of free, live music and bands. With illness thrown in too, I ummed and ahhed about whether to go but I am so glad I did because not only did I support a friend (a friend of nearly eight years!) but also had a great time too listening to live music of all different genres.

The location was great too; in the Circle at The New Wolsey Theatre which is an amazing, outside "venue"/place to play that I never knew existed. Thankfully the weather was nice too! I arrived around 5pm ish and left around 6.30/7pm ish after lots of different sets from bands of Suffolk New College.

I was there to support my friend Dean's band "Mud Slug" and they were great. Grunge genre and with lots of energy. A three piece band- a lead guitarist/vocalist- Dean, a bassist- Sienna and drummer- Jimmi and they all played spectacularly. I thoroughly enjoyed their set- a great new band that are emerging; follow them on Instagram (@mudslugband) And they even have an original song published onto Spotify which I think is a really good listen- super proud as a friend but also even as just a normal listener it is greatly played and written (it is called "Countless Hours"). The energy they brought was electric and everyone seemed to enjoy listening and getting involved with the awesome music. They also have a five track EP coming out soon which will be available on many platforms so keep an eye out for that- support local bands and especially amazing ones like this!

I really enjoyed my time and am so glad the college do this as it was a great way to get a taster of each bands energy, vibe and give them a chance to showcase their talents to the public.

It is super important to support the arts and newly formed bands like these ones as that's how music comes about and where bands and artists start from (mostly!).

I am so glad I went (have I mentioned that!?), proud as a friend but also still amazed every gig I go to, no matter how small, that music really is the greatest!
