Spider-Man Brand New Day Review

Happy Wednesday everyone! Now, as I’m sure most of you have gathered by now, I am a big Spider-Man fan. And as I’m sure even more of you are aware that there has been a new Spider-Man movie in the last week. So OBVIOUSLY I have to talk about it (but briefly because I got told off for my super long Supergirl review). Don’t worry if you haven’t seen it - this will be completely spoiler free.

First of all, wow! Just wow! It has been a little under 5 years since the last Spider-Man movie, but the wait was so worth it. The story was amazing, mainly focusing on identity and Peter finding himself in a world that doesn’t know him. It carries a great message of finding balance and comfort in those around you. This is obviously difficult for Peter, but he finds a good friendship with the Punisher, and this was such a highlight for me. They have great banter and bounce off each other so well. You can see how they respect each other, even if they find them irritating. 

The Punisher is one of a few already established characters to appear in this movie, and I believe that this was done so well. It made the universe feel real and makes sense for characters to be interlinked. But it isn’t overloaded and doesn’t feel like, what some might call, “cameo slop”. Every addition felt needed and was a joy to watch. 

Every performance was amazing, but a special shoutout to marvel newbie Sadie Sink. Without revealing anything about her character, Sink owned every second that she was on screen and proved immediately that she is a great addition to this franchise. Anyone who has seen Sink in other projects is not surprised at this, as her talent is nothing but consistent!

The fight scenes and cinematography in general were amazing. There are some incredible shots, and many in the beginning are references to comic covers which I thought was a great touch. Spider-Man’s costume was also slightly different in this movie, due to his different circumstances and lack of funding (hard to get money when you have no record of existence). This movie has a very different feel compared to its predecessors due to the change in director, but all the changes were totally worth it. 

I’ve watched this movie twice and will definitely watch it more. I rate this movie 5 big potatoes (if you know you know)
