The Kingdom Eternal

Part Two by Gabs

Elias longed for this moment. Jaxx said in a whisper, as to ensure no one heard this encounter, "open it". Elias, with his heart racing and palms sweating like he couldn't imagine having sweated this much before, went to open the box. It was exactly how he imagined, yet, different in how he thought it would feel. It felt almost like it had a story- well, it did, he thought. But, you could feel it so intensely. He undid the lock and with that the most overwhelming feelings encompassed him, an indescribable noise surrounded him, he looked up and Jaxx was no longer there, he felt a gush of wind almost like a tornado. He thought, this is probably what Dorothy felt like when going to Oz, but then it was black. Pitch black. He awoke. He awoke in a bed. A normal bed, in a normal room, in a normal house... in a normal life? With The Wizard of Oz book next to him, open at a page. It was obvious he fell asleep reading this book. And he dreamt it? But he knew he couldn't have dreamt it- he knew what was happening, he'd been there before... many times before. He knew what was in that box but then he went to remember it and the memory was gone. Elias was perplexed, he was overpoweringly nauseous and the question of "what if" crushed him. Would he ever get that opportunity again to open the box? Even though he couldn't for the life of him remember what the importance was. Or, was he scared? Did he get a lucky escape. With that, his phone went off... his boss "ugh, not today!' He thought. "Elias! You are late for work!" Said his boss, "sorry! I am truly sorry I will be there in twenty minutes". He had no choice. He had to pull himself together and let this consume him later...

He managed the morning. It was busy at work so he didn't even have time to think about what had happened. He had a boring office job and craved more, it was dull and predictable but it was money. Maybe one day, he dreamt, I will enjoy my job, I will be able to wake up and be excited about the day to come, but that day wasn't now and he had to crack on.

The afternoon came and the workload died down and he left early, with the Boss, Lucas's approval. He got home, cooked his dinner, watched rubbish on the television all night until 10pm hit and then went to go and read in bed before he slept. This was his routine, day in, day out. He didn't have a family really. His only living relative was his sister but she moved to Australia after the tragic death of their parents. Elias coped with it, because he had to, but in times like this he wished he had people who truly cared for him.

Before he slept, he couldn't help but think about last night. Was it a dream? It couldn't be surely. But it had to be. But this was different than a dream. It was almost like he could feel himself do these things. It was tactile, it was clear, but most of all it was exciting. He wanted more, he wanted to know if the "dream" from last night would continue. So, with that, he attempted to close his eyes and fall back to sleep not quite sure if he desired to be transported back or frightened for what could be and/or the consequences...
